Jack Carney
With his mix of humor, spontaneity, and warmth, Jack Carney redefined morning radio at KMOX. His creative segments and quick wit made ”The Jack Carney Show” one of the station’s biggest hits, delighting audiences throughout the 1970s.
His sense of what would please his audience came naturally. Each day he would open the show with a pun, which he could draw out into stories that would take 10 minutes to hit the punchline, and all over the market, people would sit in their cars and listen until the end, sneaking late into work afterward.
Carney’s charm and authenticity created a genuine bond with listeners, proving that great radio could be both smart and fun. Drawing from the personalities around him – people like Miss Blue, Bob Costas and Clarence – he created an ensemble cast of characters. What began as a spontaneous bit of fun grew into a lively atmosphere that reflected his own creative spirit.
His influence is still felt in KMOX’s personality-driven programming.
