Bob Costas
Bob Costas is one of the most decorated and respected broadcasters of his generation — and his legendary career began at KMOX. Personally recruited by General Manager Robert Hyland, the 22-year-old came to St. Louis to call play-by-play for the Spirits of St. Louis of the American Basketball Association. During his seven years at KMOX, Costas also hosted Open Line, called Missouri Tigers basketball, and covered major sports across the region. A semi-regular on “The Carney Show” Costas honed his subtle comic timing and quick wit – qualities that would later become hallmarks of his national broadcasting style.
Costas joined NBC in 1980, where he became one of America’s most recognizable sports voices, serving as host for 12 Olympic Games and earning 29 Emmy Awards across sports, news, and entertainment. Despite his national fame, he has always remained connected to St. Louis — the city where his remarkable broadcasting journey began.
